The one that didn't get away – Rob goes fishing (Bakewell Today)

Now this is what I like to hear about. One man and his fish, his first fly fish, ok ok so he didn;t do all of the hard work but he landed it and after the dissilusionment of not getting any fish on his first two trips he deserved it. And and nice little twist to the tale at the end. Check it out.

Rob is set to go
A LITTLE more than a year ago, I wrote in this very newspaper about my first experience of fly-fishing.
Aside from expert casting tuition at Carsington Water from Philip White, I came away empty-handed but not totally disillusioned.

With some gentle arm twisting from our esteemed angling correspondent Jim Holt, I traipsed through the mud of Chatsworth Angling Fair to find myself a bargain rod and reel.

But when a second trip, this time to Ogston Reservoir, again gave me no joy, disillusionment began to creep in.

So, Jim set up another afternoon's fishing with Philip at Carsington.

When the day arrived, so did the rain. Surely we can't go out in this weather, I reasoned.

But with my inadequate anorak replaced by fishery manager Phil Straton's robust, state-of-the-art waterproofs, there was no getting out of it now

Hooked on solitude
